Latest News KY/Barkley Lake Big Bass Bonanza Monday, June 04, 2018 "$10,000 Guaranteed First Place Prize Awarded to the team that catches the Biggest Bass of the Tournament!! $1,000 Guaranteed for Winning a Time Slot!!!" That is what awaited the teams who competed in the Big BASS Bonanza Tournament on June 3rd. The tournament features a unique big bass only format and changes the strategy of the teams, including the winners this year. Billy Sumner and Matt Robertson changed their approach for this event and it paid off. Instead of looking for schools of fish, they searched with their electronics for solo fish. "The big ones are usually by themselves and that is what we looked for. We also milked our spots much more and didn't 'run and gun' like we normally do in a regular tournament format," said Robertson who added that they only caught four fish all day. One was the 7.03lb fish that gave them the win. The fish bit a spoon at around 9:00 and was caught by Robertson. They planned to weigh in the fish during the 8:00-10:00 flight but their good friends had already weighed in a 6.87lb fish. They knew it would be close and decided to wait until the next time slot so they didn't miss out on the hourly prize. In the end, it didn't matter as it was the biggest fish caught during the event.
