Latest News Backwater Lake Cumberland Regional Monday, November 05, 2018 The Backwater Lake Cumberland Regional featured a guaranteed first place prize of $5,000! We would like to thank Backwater Outfitters and the City of Sumerset for all their support with this event. The team of Brian Smith and Shawn Branscum won the event with a 14.25lb total. Prior to the event, the size limits for all bass species was changed for a temporary study. This news altered the winning team's plans. Smith and Branscum had success in practice with smallmouth and decided to target smallmouth since the length limit was reduced. Normally a smallmouth bass has to be 18" to be a legal keeper and with the study going on it was 12" for all species of bass. They planned it perfectly and were able to catch smallmouth with jigs and shakey heads. "We caught fish right when we started and all the way until the wind started to pick up around 12:30 or 1:00," said Smith. Top 5
