KY-19 Taylorsville/Guist Creek Fall Results & Interviews

KY-19 Taylorsville/Guist Creek Fall Results & Interviews

Monday, November 23, 2009

The morning started out at a cool 36F with clear skies and a light fog rolling off the water to start the last KY-19 Taylorsville/Guist Creek Fall division tournament held on November 21, 2009. But, the sun soon rose over the trees to shine over Guist Creek and start warming up the 50 or so degree water and the cold hands of the anglers. The weather turned out beautiful with high’s topping out around 60F with light and variable winds. By tournament end the water temps rose to around 55F.

At the start of the event it was a split crowd as about an even number chose to fish the creek and the main lake. At the end of the day one team made the right choice to start and finish their fishing in the creek.

Team Louis Allen/Adam Bast took first place with a 5 bass limit of 14.12lbs and Big Bass honors with a hefty 5.14lb LM.

Allen/Bast fished in the creek all day fishing slow in 4-6’ deep water. The team caught their fish using?? Sorry, but the team didn’t want to comment on that.

“We did better in practice, but the cold front that came through changed how the fish were biting. The fish wouldn’t chase anything so we had to adjust and fish slow. We also found the fish wouldn’t bite in water fifty degrees or lower. The water temperature needed to be warmer. We missed a lot of fish including a bigger fish than the big bass that we weighted in. Still things worked perfect for us in the end.

This was our first U.S.A. Bassin tournament we have fished. I think it is an excellent organization and we plan on fishing the Guist Creek spring division and some other divisions as well!”         -Adam Bast

On a side note, Adam is no stranger to fishing Guist Creek. He has been fishing it for years and owns a construction business called Bast Construction in Shelbyville. Adam does Home repair: Additions, Restorations, Remodels and Free Estimates. Adam would like to offer U.S.A. Bassin members a 10% discount on home repairs. He is also considering sponsoring the Guist Creek spring division.

Team Philip Risinger fishing with his brother David as a substitute took second place with a 5 bass limit of 9.51lbs.

Risinger/Risinger caught their fish around docks in the creek and points on the main lake in 8’ deepwater using Jigs and Worms fishing slow.

“The fishing was slow and the bites were spread out during the day. We were disappointed with our fishing and thought it was going to be a bad day for us. That was until around 11am our day turned around for us. The started fishing deeper and that helped us get the bites we needed.

I enjoyed fishing the U.S.A. Bassin tournaments this year. I think it is a good tournament trail and the director runs a well organized tournament. We plan to continue fishing it!”

                        -Philip Risinger

Team David Scott/Larry Scott took third place with a 5 bass limit of 9.07lbs and won the Divisional Points Championship beating out team Duckworth/Watts. Going into the tournament, Duckworth/Watts had the lead by one point, but failed to seal the deal by only bring two fish to the scales for seventh place.

“Winning the Divisional Point Championship was great! This was a good division to win the championship in. There are a lot of really good anglers in this division, and it is very competitive. I was fortunate that I got to fish all of the tournaments. I really like this tournament trail! There are a lot of friendly anglers that fish in this tournament trail. It is very affordable and you can fish any division for the same price.”

                        -David Scott
