Latest News New England's Highest Points Adult/ Youth Team![]() Thursday, December 03, 2009 Ben Robinson joined USA Bassin this year. Ben was 15 for The Machias River Division. Due to a snafu, Ben didn't get his plaque at the regional. This situation is being taken care of but you can't replace being recognized in the middle of The great USA Bassin fishermen of New England.
The picture is of Ben's biggest fish to date. He caught it in June on Sebago Lake. He didn't catch enough fish at the regional, to go to the Classic next May, but I bet it won't be long.
Ben has been fishing bass tournaments for the past 5 years. I have watched him become a better fisherman year after year. I truly enjoy watching young fishermen improve. I made sure that I spoke to Ben at every tournament. He has become a very nice gentleman. I am proud to know this young man.
Two years ago Ben and his family went to a Bassmaster Elite tournament in Florida. He met some of the best fishermen in the country. Steve Kennedy, Rick Ash, Mark Zona, Todd Faircloth, Mike McCleland, Chris Lane, Mark Menedez, Dean Rojas, Shaw Grigsby, Edwin Evers and Kevin VanDam. They all signed his Maine Blade Runners T-shirt.
This past season Ben has really started to be competitive. He has had lunker several times and placed in a number of tournaments. The last couple of years, I had on occasion beat them out of lunker by only ounces. Ben has always brought his fish in to be weighed, no matter how much he had. His persistence has paid off. Ben has matured enough over the last couple of years that I think I can make a few pokes at him. I suppose he will put those lunkers in my face though. I hope he does.
Ben is an avid hunter as well. He is a member of the Calais Rod and Gun Club. Perfect scores were not unexpected at the club's Gun Field Day. Ben's first deer came last year and his first bear came this year. I called and spoke to his father the other day and Ben was out duck and goose hunting. I am glad that I don't have wings.
He has $2500 saved for his bass boat.
A quiet, friendly, confident young man has what it takes to succeed at anything.
Ben is a perfect example of what promoting fishing in young people is all about. He will contribute to society and be a friend of fishing and hunting for life. I am glad that USA Bassin can be a part of that.
My very best wishes and the best of luck are with Ben.
