Latest News KY-17 Lake *****berland Interviews with the Winners![]() Sunday, April 04, 2010 Lake *****berland in KY is a new division for U.S.A. Bassin this year. This division held its first tournament on March 28, 2010.
Mother Nature was not kind to the anglers that came out for this first event. The weather was nasty with hard rain showers, windy conditions and intervals of sun most of the day. Water temps ranged anywhere from 48-53F.
Although the weather wasn’t kind; that didn’t deter the 15 teams who came out to try their luck at catching some bass and winning this event. Some nice fish were caught and a few teams hung in there to bring some good weight to the scales.
1st place/Big Fish: Drew Sadler/Brian Richmond (5) fish totaling 13.32lbs that included a 4.67lb Big Bass.
The team caught their fish using jigs fishing main lake pockets 8-10’ deep.
“Our day of fishing started out good. We managed to put several keepers in the boat right off the bat. We had rain showers, cloudy conditions and periods of sun throughout the day. It seemed as though the fish bit better during the rain showers. When the rain and clouds gave way to sunny clear skies it would kill the bite. But, when the clouds and rain showers would come in again the bite would pickup. We caught a total of 12 keepers by the end of the day.
I had been looking for another trail to fish and had looked into fishing U.S.A. Bassin tournaments, but they didn’t have a division on a lake that I like to fish. The Lake *****berland division seems like it is going to be a good division to fish. I consider Lake *****berland to be our home lake. I think this division is going to do real well. We had a good turnout for being the first tournament and considering the weather. It was a well run event by the director Barry, and offers a good group of guys to fish with. We plan on fishing all the tournaments in this division! I’m happy to see U.S.A. Bassin start a division on this lake! I really like the Regional and Classic lakes that this trail offers!” -Brian Richmond
The team caught their fish using spinnerbaits and crankbaits fishing rock banks with wood cover.
“Our tournament went well. The first spot we fished I boated a keeper largemouth. We then moved to another area and caught our limit by 10:30am. We ended up culling fish all day; with probably close to three limits, but a lot of the fish were KY Bass.
This was our first U.S.A. Bassin tournament we have fished and really enjoyed it. Barry, the director is a real nice fellow and he did a really good job running the event. I like the setup of this trail and I like fishing team trails. We look forward to fishing more of these tournaments in the future! -Chan Hood
3rd place: Alan Clark/Jeff Pierce (5) fish totaling 11.65lbs. I was unable to get a comment from this team.
Thanks guys for taking your time to talk with me and make this article possible. Good luck fishing!
