Latest News Newtons get it done for Bassin"![]() Thursday, November 11, 2010 USA Bassin’ has been blessed with great directors that keep our tournaments running. John Newton is no exception. John came to USA Bassin’ several years back after fishing a division on the Rough River with his uncle. John was interested in Bassin’ but was unsure if this was what he wanted to devote time to. Kevin Yeary president of Bassin’ saw that Newton was a great pick for a division director and stayed in contact with John until he agreed to come on board. About ten years ago John had an accident at work that left him with injuries to both knees. Unable to perform the line of work he had been trained for so many years for Newton was forced to go on disability.
In an interview with John he said until USA Bassin’ came along we didn’t know what to do with his time. Newton spends a bundle of time now with Bassin’ now running a spring, fall, night co-ed, next generation, regional (that hosted 115 teams this year), co-ed classic and Tracker Cup. Newton is running tournaments almost every weekend with many averaging over 20 boats and qualifying for Tracker Bonus money. John expressed his desire to see the next generation tournament series grow and is currently working with two local high school fishing teams.
When John and I spoke on the phone he made special mention of his family that helps him. Newton realizes that without his wife, sister, and brother-law it would be next to impossible to make things run smooth at each tournament. When you talk with John Newton it is easy to feel the passion that he has for the sport of bass fishing. As we all enjoy the sport of tournament bass fishing in the USA Bassin tournament trail we need to remind ourselves that this is made possible by devoted folks like John and his family. So, next time we enter a USA Bassin’ tournament trail take time to thank those directors like John that make it all happen.
