Bass Cats Sign Arkansas Standout

MCKENZIE, Tenn. -The Bethel University Wildcat Bass program signed Jackson Smith Monday. The Fayetteville (Ark.) High School standout is the son of Jim Smith and Courtney Gwaltney of Fayetteville and will major in Business. His stepdad is Bill Gwaltney and his stepmom is Rebecca Hurst.

Jackson has been fishing since the seventh grade with the Arkansas Youth Anglers. He has also been a member of the Arkansas Youth B.A.S.S. Nation since grade school. He has won several events and has not finished out of the money in his last two tournament seasons.

Smith was named to the 2022 Bassmaster All-State Honorable Mention team.

Of the water Smith has been a Agri completionist. He is also certified in construction and general safety with OSHA.

Jackson feels his biggest strengths are his drive and consistency.

Coach Garry Mason was excited about the signing. "We are proud to have Jackson on our team. He brings a lot of experience and knowledge to our program. We are excited and look forward to working with him."
