Latest News Team Gammon wins Next Gen Classic![]() Friday, July 08, 2022 The annual Next Generation Classic was held on Barkley Lake the last weekend in June and featured teams vying for the first-place prize of a $5,000 scholarship. For the second year in a row, Whit Gammon and his 13-year-old son, Greer, took home the win and will now try to win their third in a row next year. The event was two days of fishing and the Greers found themselves in second place after the first day with 12.86lbs, over five pounds behind the team of BJ and Carson Fitzgerald. "The first day was pretty good and we caught a lot of keepers, but we just didn't execute on the big fish," said Whit Gammon. "We were over five pounds back but felt we could catch 14 pounds or so and have an outside shot." They caught their fish with plum Zoom Ol' Monster worms and a football head on the first day under sunny skies and the second day brought overcast conditions. "We thought the bite would be different and didn't feel like the bite would be as good doing what we were doing," they said. "But, we were able to get a limit very quickly with some solid fish. Then, Greer caught our biggest fish, one almost 4 pounds later in the day." Being so far behind the leaders, the team knew they would need some help to overtake them and it happened. "We knew we needed a miracle and unfortunately, the leading team broke down and were just trying to make it back however they could with their three fish," he said. "It was gutwrenching for us. We were excited to win but tough for us to digest and we felt for them." Top 5 Results
