Latest News Mc Whorters Win on Monroe! Night tournaments Underway!![]() Tuesday, July 05, 2011 As Rick Ingram weighted the last sack of bass of the June 25th 2011 spring tournament you could hear a “YES” ring out in the crowd. The yell came from J.J. Mc Whorter. He and his uncle Larry had realized they had the largest bag of the day. With a 5.90lb largemouth and a limit of over 16 plus pounds they beat out a full 30 boat field of anglers on Lake Monroe. Lake Monroe has been as high as 18ft above normal pool and now the waters have receded to about 5ft above. Fish have been scattered to say the least. Now the fish are in a post spawn pattern but a few fish have been weighted in that appear to have not spawned yet. Despite the crazy conditions anglers have been catching some great limits of fish on Monroe.
Lake Monroe’s Night division is underway! Now that summer has arrived bass can be caught in some huge numbers and size at night! As the night air cools the shallow water bass will feed close to the banks. Many areas during the day might not be the best spots become prime spots at night. Top water baits such as buzz baits and jitterbugs make great weapons for night time bass. As the summer night moves into different moon phases baits like back spinner baits with Colorado blades work extremely well. As always the big worm and jig will have their place at time during the summer at night. Points acquired during night tournaments are treated just as points in any other division of bassin’ so they can be used to qualify for regional tournaments. If you are interested in fishing the Lake Monroe night division the USA Bassin’ website has dates. Tournaments will run from 7:00pm till 3:00 am.
