Geist Reservoir Regional

Geist Reservoir Regional

Wednesday, October 11, 2023

The Geist Reservoir Regional is always hotly contested with 80 boats taking to the water. This year's event featured a guaranteed first-place prize of $3,500 and Tanner Sharp and Austin Creamer narrowly took home the win; unfortunately for another team, it was thanks to dead fish penalties by the other team.

Sharp and Creamer know Geist well and won the points for the summer division and used that knowledge to take the win in the regional. "We started off with a small limit and then got progressively better weights as the day went on," said Tharp. "Geist isn't a big lake and it gets crowded with 80 boats, so we paid attention to areas that weren't getting hit as much so we weren't fishing recycled water."

They rotated through three key spots, flipping isolated grass and then expanded their areas to find similar-looking water. They knew they had a decent bag, but were surprised to get the win.

"We thought it would take at least 20 pounds to win and really only won because of the dead fish penalty," he said. "The first place prize was nice and we were also able to get a $7,000 contingency from Ranger Boats, so it was a very good payout."
