Coffeen Lake Fall/Winter division

Coffeen Lake Fall/Winter division

Thursday, November 03, 2011

This past Saturday the USA Bassin Coffeen Lake division held their second October tournament. Director Dan Blanton was at the helm and continues to run a smooth event. There were 26 teams who attended the tournament. The day started out a little brisk but warmed quickly. The water temp at the main access ramp was just above 70 degrees. The tail end of cemetery cove was in the upper 60’s and the same at the trestle area. The day was clear with light winds but you couldn’t tell that by looking at the weights.

There were 23 five fish limits. There were 3 fish in the 4 pound range and 2 fish in the mid to upper 3’s brought to the scales. With big bass weighing 4.51 pounds and second big bass weighing 4.39 pounds. The next USA Bassin event on Coffeen will be held December 10 with a start time of 8:00am.

The first place check went to the team of Donnie Chandler and Glenn Wells. Their technique places them in the check cashing line on just about a permanent basis. Glenn and Donnie reported catching their fish on watermelon red centipedes. They said their fish came both deep and shallow. They also reported that weed beds did not have to be present, but did help, when fishing the centipede Carolina or Texas style.
