Kentucky regional on the Ohio River

Kentucky regional on the Ohio River

Thursday, November 10, 2011

On a fantastic fall morning for fishing 45 USA Bassin’ members took part in the Kentucky regional on the Ohio River. Under the direction of William Brown each team took off with the hopes of qualifying for the Nitro Classic to be held on Kentucky Lake in May of2012. Last year’s regional on the Ohio had brought in some healthy bags of bass.

However, this year would prove to be much harder to boat the bass needed to gain a position in the upcoming Classic. Director Brown felt the tournament being held several weeks later last year was the credit to the success of last year’s regional. A 16lb sack of smallmouth would take the top prize just one year prior. Smallmouth bass was very active later in the season to aid the anglers in their quest for a qualifying spot.

The Ohio River regional this year would be a grind. Director Williams noted that fish brought in at this year’s regional had larger bags of bass from the creeks than the main river would bring.  Team Robinson and Hill would come out on the top of the leader board at the end. The top team fished the creeks flipping bushes to catch 11.15 lbs. and take the number one spot. Robinson and Hill took home a prize package worth over 4000 dollars in total prize money. Second place would go to team Harrison and Gaffey.

The two would also fish the creeks but using a crank bait to capture the fished needed for the second place spot. 14 USA Bassin team would advance to the Nitro Classic and the remaining 31 will be able to fish the Tracker Cup also being held on Kentucky Lake in April. If you qualified for  the Nitro Classic or Tracker Cup entry forms are available online at the Bassin website. As the season comes to a close the folks at Bassin’ want to thank each and every angler for fishing with us.

We feel we have the very best bass fishing team circuit in the country and are proud of every member of Bassin. Also a big shout out to our directors for all the hard work they put into the 2011 season.

God Bless and tight lines to all.
