Brownies Open

Brownies Open

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

The morning felt like summer on spring May 20th; weather would remain in that pattern all day. Temperatures sored to near 90 degrees with only a small breeze. Nothing could explain the odd weather. However, it was easy to explain the almost fifty anglers that turned out at Geist Reservoir on that day. Sign-up had begun for the USA BASSIN Brownies Marine “Chris Massey Memorial” open team bass tournament.  Despite the summer like conditions BASSIN anglers along with others came to compete knowing proceeds from the tournament would support the USA BASSIN Next Generation Scholarship Fund. The field of teams gathered off Olio ramp as tournament director Rick Ingram announced position numbers at take-off. Geist Reservoir has been noted as a great place to bass fish with a huge population of largemouth and weigh-in would show no different. Drew Crawford and Zach Grounds caught a limit of bass just short of twenty pound at 19.93 and claim third place. In second place was team Hinesley and Hinesley that took a limit of fish that weighed 21.17lbs. Ronnie and Chad would also take home the big bass prize of the day with a 6.05 Geist Reservoir largemouth. Edging out the Hinesley duo for the win by less than a half pound was Paul Browning of and Kathy Hosimer. Paul and Kathy was successful in catching a 21.53lb limit and be titled champions of this year’s USA BASSIN Brownies Marine Open. After the tournament Brownies owners Jim and Margret Massey served food and drinks while sales manager Michael and service manager Marc Massey gave away door prizes. USA BASSIN would like to thank the Massey’s and all involved in making the tournament a success.  USA BASSIN Open tournaments across the country generate money that increases the Next Generation Scholarship Fund. All Next Generation teams have a chance to win scholarships ranging from $5000.00 to $16,000.00. Scholarship monies won are put into escrow for the winning child, and then distributed once that child prepares for their continued education.
