Latest News Conrad Brothers Marine Regional![]() Tuesday, August 21, 2012 Sunday, August 19, 2012 – 32 teams took to Smith Mountain Lake to fish the U.S.A. BASSIN Conrad Brothers Regional. Tournament Director James Cassaday described the conditions as tough fishing and added “the weather was a little cool at 67 degrees, and it stayed windy and rainy the whole day.” He said the lake typically takes at least 15lbs to get a check, but today a 13lb bag was enough to make it into the Top 3.
Continuing their great season this year, the team of Trevis and Danny Towe took the win at the Conrad Brothers Regional. This team of brothers won the VA-01 Conrad Brothers Marine Divisional Championship this year and continued their great season with a win today at the regional tournament. Their weight of 18.49lbs was enough to win the event by over five pounds. The Towe brothers caught their fish on Carolina-rigs, shaky heads and jigs and went through a total of nine keepers to get to their winning weight. Their biggest bass weighed in at 5.02lbs. “It was a slow grind, but we slowly built up our weight throughout the day,” added Trevis Towe.
In second place was Team Nichols, who also finished second to Team Towe in the team of the year race this season. Luke and Gary Nichols Jr. weighed in 13.42lbs to finish second. “We had been catching a lot of fish shallow all summer and are very blessed to have a day like today. We caught a total of 30 fish by fishing a shaky head and senko around boat docks,” added Luke Nichols. They focused on shallow water and added that they covered at least five miles of shoreline docks to catch their fish. It was a day of lost fish for them as they had chances with several bigger fish that may have closed the gap between themselves and the first place team.
In third place was the team of Roger Castillo and Larry Whitt who weighed in 13.38lbs. Like Team Nichols, they went through quite a few fish to cull up to their weight. “We caught between 20-25 fish today and focused on shallow points that were less than ten feet deep,” added Roger Castillo. Their winning baits were Roboworms fished on a drop-shot. The team added that they were never able to catch a kicker fish and that all of their fish were about the same size.
U.S.A. Bassin would like thank all of the Virginia teams who fished the Conrad Brothers Regional. We are looking forward to the next season of tournaments for the Virginia Tracker/Nitro Team Trail Divisions.
