Latest News Southern Ohio Regional![]() Thursday, October 11, 2012 10/7/2012- 83 teams launched out of the White Oak Pool on the Ohio River for the Southern Ohio Regional. The fishing was excellent for this stretch of the river, with numerous limits and several healthy smallmouth weighed in. Tournament Director John Johnson was pleased with the turnout and the fishing, "it started off pretty cold and windy, but was great weather as we weighed in. It was also great to see some big smallmouth come in, it looks like they are making a comeback in this pool."
The father and son team of Steve and Cole Floyd weighed in 12.20 pounds to win the event. They went through ten keepers to reach their winning weight. "We caught them all on spinnerbaits later in the day. The fish and shad seemed to be holding close to fallen logs in the afternoon and that's what we focused on," added Steve Floyd.
Second Place was Roger and Ryan Carter. The father/son duo caught the majority of their fish on a tube bait. "We had a limit before 9:30 and then slowly culled out all those fish," added Roger Carter. They had a smallmouth weighing 3.73lbs that fell for a tube.
Third Place was John Carter and Sandy Dryer who weighed in 10.33 pounds. John Carter recounted the day and said "We caught almost all of our fish early, between 9 and 11. Topwaters and crankbaits were what we used to catch them." They caught approximately 13 fish today and all were keeper size. The highlight of the day was a 3.78lb smallmouth, which was the big bass of the event.
The Southern Ohio Regional was a success with nearly everyone weighing in a fish today. Teams came from across Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky to fish the White Oak Pool.
