Latest News Western Tennessee Regional![]() Thursday, October 18, 2012 10/6/2012 - Bull Creek Ramp hosted the Western Tennessee regional on Old Hickory Lake. A total of 80 boats traveled from across Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Alabama and Georgia to fish the tournament. Old Hickory is known as a tough lake, where timing is everything and this event was no different. Tournament Director Willie Edmonds was forced to delay the start due to low light conditions coupled with rising water and more floating debris than normal. Even with the delay, several limits were brought to the scales.
The first place team was Buyrl Shirley and Ronny Rogers who weighed in 13.71lbs. They caught their fish on a variety of Zorro Baits, including the Head Knocker and Aggravator. Ronny Rogers explained a tough day that turned out good, "We got lucky and got on the fish at the right time. It was enough to win it."
Second place was Brad McClure and Rocco Simeri who weighed in 13.63lbs. They caught six fish throughout the day and relied heavily on a mixed pattern. McClure said "we basically junk fished and caught them on several baits. We used a jig, crankbait and worm to get out fish." They mentioned it was a later bite as they only had one fish at 11:00 before the bite picked up.
Third Place was Doug Pietrzak who fished the event by himself. He weighed in a limit weighing 10.41. The key baits for him were a 3/8 and 1/2 jig and allowed him to catch six keepers during the day. "I lost a few fish, but caught enough to get a check. It was a timing event, with one here and one there which was about what I expected going into the tournament," added Pietrzak.
The big bass of the tournament was caught by the team of Messer and Stanley and it weighed in at 5.69lbs.
The Western Tennessee season is currently underway, with events throughout the region.
