The Missouri Regional

The Missouri Regional

Sunday, October 28, 2012

10/27/2012 - The Missouri regional was held on Stockton Lake out of Ruark Bluff.  A total of 37 boats took to the waters and overall the field reported great fall fishing. Tournament Director Wayne Bostron said "The weather was good, it started out cold in the morning and was only about 29 degrees.  It warmed up to 52 in the afternoon and was great fishing."  The Top 3 finishers all reported catching multiple fish and on a variety of lures, it was typical fall fishing for most of the field.

Topping the field was the team of Ron Voet and Shawn Mooney who weighed in 15.00lbs. The duo also had the biggest bass of the event which weighed in at 5.79lbs. Ron Voet recalled the day and said they caught the majority of their fish on a 1/2 ounce jig on a shelf that tapered from 3 feet down to 18 feet. The spot was so productive they spent the majority of their day in that location. "We had our limit by 9:00. We caught a few on topwaters, but the jig was the main bait," added Voet. The big turnaround for the day came around 12:00 when they caught their biggest bass. "That was a game changer," added Voet.

Finishing 2nd was the team of Phillip Williams and Phil Williams Jr. This team weighed in 14.84lbs and also had a 5.19lb bass. Interestingly, the team had never been to the lake before this event and ended up spending the whole day in one single stretch of bank that was about a mile long. "We were just junk fishing; we caught them on so many different baits. We would go down the stretch once and throw a crankbait and then the next time throw something different," added Williams Jr. The team stuck with what they had found in practice and had a limit by 8:00, from there they culled throughout the day.

Third Place was the team of Jeff Chappell and Coby Sorensen. Chappell added that they caught in excess of 40 fish and said "Never in my dreams would we have caught that many fish on topwater in water that shallow and clear. We could have just brought two rods out there because that's all we threw." They were fishing shallow pockets and were as far back as they could get and focused on fish relating to scattered shad schools in three feet of water.

Special thanks to Fin and Feather and The Outdoor Experience for their support of the Missouri region. USABassin would like to thank all of the Missouri anglers for their support this season. The next season will kick off in March.
