Latest News Wow!!! They Did It Again!!!![]() Thursday, February 14, 2013
On January 12th, USA Bassin history was made with the largest bass ever caught during one of our tournaments was weighed in; the record was short-lived. On February 9th a new big bass record was born, amazingly it was from the same team who brought the new record to the scales, a 11.33lb bass, besting their previous record of 11.15lbs. The similarities are amazing as both were weighed in on the same body of water during a North Florida Fall/Winter event on the St. John’s River. The similarities do not stop there as both fish were caught bed fishing, with a Yum Mighty Bug in nearly the same location of the river; the only difference was who caught it with Tony Jolley being the new record holder.
Jolley’s team partner, Josh Cone recalled the days leading up to the event, “We both have been so busy with work and having crazy schedules that we didn’t even get to pre-fish. We just kind of winged it and went to the same location as last month just on the other side of the river, the spots were within sight of each other.” Another interesting note for the day was that numerous other competitors were in the same area, yet Jolley and Cone happened to find the big female before anyone else could spot her.
This time they were able to also get the win as their 27lb bag was good enough for the win. Last month their total weight was also very similar, yet they lost to a team with a bag weighing over 30lbs. The fishing is amazing on the St. John’s River this year and the anglers are enjoying every minute of it. Cone and Jolley are very fortunate and the rest of the field is still in disbelief, “We’ve had three or four calls from guys wanting us to come and touch their fishing rods for good luck, “laughed the team.
The next U.S.A. Bassin North Florida Fall/Winter event is scheduled for March 9th, again on the St. Johns River. The new big bass record is safe, at least until then.
