Latest News Next Generation Classic![]() Tuesday, June 18, 2013
Day one of the USA BASSIN Next Generation Classic began with an outstanding field of 26 teams. Young men and women from across the Midwest met at beautiful Patoka Lake in Southern Indiana to compete for scholarship prize money. The field of youth with their adult partners had fantastic weather with partly cloudy skies and upper 70’s temperatures. Director and CEO of USA BASSIN Kevin Yeary released the field at dawn. After eight hours of fishing it was time for weigh-in. Two-time Next Generation Classic champions Steve and Lance Freeman held top honors after day one with the days only five fish limit. The Freeman’s Patoka Lake limit weighted in at 10.38. Mike and Christian Collins sat in second place with 7.89lbs. Collins also collected the big bass prize of the day with a 5.64 largemouth. After all teams had weighed in the teams enjoyed a cook-out. Competition began once again as the teams squared off in a corn whole tournament and a flip & pitch contest. Corn hole champion honors went to Alan and Tyler Harris. The flip & pitch competition prize went to Chandler Fleetwood.
On Father’s day as day two began for the BASSIN youth they found the weather to be cloudy with a hint of rain in the forecast. The rains never came but the fishing really picked up. With all teams returning for day two they once again left at dawn with their eye on the prize. At the end of the day when the teams returned they did so with bigger fish and more of them. Lance Freeman and his Uncle Steve Freeman would bring in the biggest bag of largemouth for the tournament on day two with 15.65lbs that combined with day one would leave them with a two day total of 26.03lb. Team Freeman would almost double the weight of second place day two total and claim the prize of a $5000 scholarship making the team a three time Next Generation Classic champions. Tim and Reed Robinson with capture the second place spot and highest placing division point champion during the classic. The two took home $1200 in cash and a $500 scholarship. Mason and Chanler Fleetwood placed third with 12.11lbs. Team Fleetwood would also grab the biggest bass of the day award winning a trophy and $260.
The staff at USA BASSIN would like to congratulate all of our Next Generation anglers for competing in the 2013 Next Generation Classic. It was a fabulous two days of memories with fathers on father’s day, family members and loved ones.
