Latest News Eastern Kentucky State Regional![]() Monday, September 23, 2013 The Eastern Kentucky State Regional was held on September 22nd on Yatesville Lake. Qualified teams blasted off from the State Park Ramp to test their luck. Fishing proved to be difficult, yet the quality of the fish was impressive for the top teams. Cracking the code on Yatesville was the Father/Son team of Bear and Tyler Halbert. The team only had four fish for the day but still manage to bring in 17.62lbs. Their bag was anchored by a 7.4lb big bass caught by the 17 year old Tyler Halbert. "The big fish was caught first thing in the morning, maybe 40 minutes into the day. We were catching the fish on charrerbaits up the creek," said Halbert. The team focused on grassy areas that were mixed with wood to catch their fish. Once the morning bite ended, so did the action. "It was done by around 11 and got really tough. We fish here a few times a year and this is really tough fishing for this lake," said Halbert. For the win, the Halberts brought home over $1900 and an additional $380 for big bass. 2nd Place was the team of Butch Fulks and Russ Bush who weighed in four fish for over 12lbs. "We were catching them in 3-6ft of water all the way down to 17 feet deep. We were fishing the main lake an I think the fish really haven't started to get back in the creeks and chase the shad yet, they are still pretty scattered," said Fulks. This was the first time on the lake for the team and they were able to catch four fish including one over 6lbs. "We caught some on a swim jig with a Netbait Little Spanky swimbait as a trailer and also caught some on a Cabin Creek Craw and Netbait Salt Lick," said Fulks. He reported that the bite also slowed down after around 11:00. 3rd Place was Garrett and Daryl Kazee who had four fish for 10.41lbs. The team caught their fish early with a Carolina-rigged brush hog and also a spinnerbait. "We could never get that fifth fish. Dad had a big one right at the end that would have put us right there for the win but it came off," said Garrett Kazee. The team focused on brush piles that were 10-15ft deep. Thanks to all of the teams who fished the Eastern Kentucky divisions. We are excited about the 2014 season. By: Tyler Brinks
