Latest News Lucas Oil Carroll County Open![]() Tuesday, May 26, 2015 The Lucas Oil Carroll County Open was held on the Ohio River and had a guaranteed first prize payout of $2,500. The winning team was brothers Michael and Lenny Bays. They focused primarily on smallmouth and it paid off for them with a win and the big prize. With their experience on the Ohio River, they knew that the conditions were setup perfectly for smallmouth bass fishing. "We grew up fishing the Ohio River and knew that anytime you have rain and overcast conditions like we did during the tournament, the smallmouth fishing is great. We made the decision to fish for smallmouth and caught a few early so we stuck with it all day," said Michael Bays. Most of the field focused on largemouth in shallow backwaters and creeks and the Bays estimated that less than ten smallmouth were weighed out of the entire field. They had five of them and weighed an 11.70lb bag for the win. They focused on mainriver locations with a spinnerbait for the win. "Another key was that they were pulling alot of water that day and the current really set the smallmouth up in specific places instead of roaming around looking for bait. We used a 7/16oz Strike King Baby Burner spinnerbait to catch our fish," added Bays. Although they only caught five keepers all day, they were the right size. The team credited the spinnerbait for the win and said it was perfect for fishing the current due to its compact size and small blades, allowing them to fish it quickly through the current. David Padgett won $100.00 from the Lucas Oil Reward Program for purchasing Lucas Oil products. Here is how the program works:
