Uncle Sam Bass Caught at Geist

Uncle Sam Bass Caught at Geist

Tuesday, October 04, 2016

Matt Hamilton and his 13 year old son Grant had a great showing at the Ted's Aqua Marine Regional. They finished 4th and took home $500. That alone would be a good story, but they were able to win an additional $2,000 for catching the Uncle Sam Bass.

If you are not familiar with the prize, it is a mystery weight that much be hit exactly in order to win. This time it was 3.88lbs and that was the biggest fish the team weighed in. Weighing in the exact same weight is good for $1,000, but the team had also bought a weigh bag from USA Bassin that allowed them to win an extra $1,000 for purchasing something.

Matt Hamilton had heard of the Uncle Sam Bass before but was unsure of how it worked. "They called out the weight and said there was a winner.  I had to double check my weigh slip because I couldn't believe it," he said. The lucrative fish was caught by Matt on a football jig.
