Andy Southard and Darren Napier win Ranger Camanche Z519 and 225hp Mercury

235 teams blasted off from Kentucky Dam Marina for the Ranger Camanche Classic on May 5th and 6th in hopes of taking home the first prize of a Ranger Camanche Z519 and 225hp Mercury. The weights were good and it took over 40lbs to take home the top prize.

Finishing in first was Andy Southard and Darren Napier with 42.79lbs.  They were very consistent and weighed 21lb bags each day on their way to the win.  Southard, who is also the director of the KY-20 division grew up close to the lake and believes that was the key for their win. "The fishing was fairly tough as the fish were in transition, but we knew where to go. We caught about fifteen keepers each day but caught them shallow to deep and on a variety of baits," he said.  They relied on wacky-rigs, Pop-Rs, swimbaits, drop-shot and more baits and just fished whatever would be best for the area they were moving through.  The bite was best first thing in the morning shallow and then again late in the day in deep water and the mid-morning was the slowest for them both days.  The team would like to thank their sponsors All-Pro Rods, Slong's Fishing Lures and Pott's Marine. They also took home additional money for winning the Ranger Cup bonus.

Second place was Butch Jessie and Brian Witham with 38.85lbs. They took home $15,000 for their finish. The team had a better first day with nearly 21lbs and backed it up with 17.89lbs on the second day.  Even though they had less weight on Day 2, both days were very similar as they caught just six fish each day. They stayed in one general area and kept the bait in 10-12ft and cast to the bank with Carolina-rigs.

Third place was Joe Rasnick and Denny Johnson with 37.08lbs. They took home $10,000 for their finish.
