Southern Illinois State Regional

Sep 09, 2017
Matt Patchett and Joe Bullock take top honors.

The Southern Illinois State Regional was held on Rend lake out of the Sailboat Ramp. It attracted 144 teams from the region, all vying for the guaranteed first place prize of $5,000 and entries into the Championship Week events that will be held on Kentucky Lake in May 2018.

Taking first was the team of Matt Patchett and Joe Bullock. They qualified for this event by fishing the Lake of Egypt Fall Division, but both are very familiar with Rend. They have fished this regional several times and placed in the money multiple times, but this was their first big win at the regional.

They weighed in a 16.61lb limit, thanks in part to a 5.08lb fish caught in the last half hour of fishing. "We caught three in the morning and then three right at the end. We had to leave at 2:25 to get back in on time and that fish came at 2:00," says Bullock. They only caught six keepers all day, but they had enough to take the win. The team focused on shallow rocks anywhere from 0-3 feet and caught fish on soft plastics and shallow crankbaits.

Congrats Matt and Joe on your big win!
