The Geist Reservoir Open is part of the Indiana Lucas Oil Big Money Tournaments. These events feature a guaranteed $1,500 to first place with at 30 boats entered. Today's tournament featured 36 boats so the prize was even higher.
Taking first was Kyle Draper and Daniel Sharrett. The team are regulars at the IN-32 Geist Reservoir Division tournaments and were able to take the win today with 20.19lbs. Included in their bag were three five-pound class fish and two other keepers. They reported that the fish bit in flurries and they caught approximately ten keepers throughout the day.
"The morning started out slow but we caught a few between 10-11:30 and then it slowed down again. From 1:00 until about 2:30 they started biting again," said Draper. The team focused on shallow water between two and eight-feet deep and focused on any structure they could find with crankbaits. "It was rock, wood and anything we could fish around." For their win, they took home $1,800.
The next Indiana Lucas Oil Big Money Tournament is the Lake Monroe Open that will be held on May 20th. It will again feature a $1,500 first prize. If we have more than 30 boats then the first place prize will go up!!
