Day one of the 2018 Ranger Aluminum Cup hosted on Kentucky Lake brought quite a showing of impressive fish including a Ranger Aluminum Cup record-shattering big bass. Caught by Mason Nicholson of Pleasant View, Tennessee, the 9.91-pound bass turned heads as it crossed the USA Bassin stage.
“This is my personal bass that I have ever caught and plus is it was the biggest bass I've ever weighed in during a tournament all at the same time,” said Nicholson. “My biggest before that was a 6.36-pound fish, so I jumped up quite a bit.”
Nicholson caught his big bass, which broke the previous Ranger Aluminum Cup record by 2.68 pounds, by flipping a magic craw-colored texas rigged plastic. He heavily targeted wood in a small area located on the south end of the lake. he sacked the 9-plus pound fish by 9 a.m.
Nicholson and his partner, Shane Stagg, held a third-place position after day one but finished 10th overall in their first ever Ranger Aluminum Cup tournament.
