Whaples and Settle win WV Regional

Team wins Stonewall Jackson Lake by over five pounds.

The 2014 West Virginia Regional was held on Stonewall Jackson Lake, a body of water that was catch and release only up until this year. Since this year was the first year for tournaments, expectations were high going into the event. The fishing proved to be a challenge during the regional however as just two teams were able to catch a limit.

Tournament Directors Tim Whaples and Scott Settle weighed a five fish limit for 13.89lbs and also had the big bass at 5.26lbs. "This lake really fit our style perfectly since we both love pitching and flipping. We did that all day, fishing the wood with both plastics and jigs," said Whaples. The team caught more than two limits and ended up winning by over five pounds.

Second Place was Tim Wade and Rick Jones who had a limit weighing 8.74lbs. Wade had fished the Lucas Oil event the week before and found fish right next to the boat ramp. "We started right there and didn't even crank up the big motor and caught four fish in the first half hour. After that it was slow and we caught one here and there," said Wade. A jig with a craw trailer proved to be the best bait for the team.

Third Place was Dakota Brown and Damon Abshire with three fish for 8.11lbs, including a 4.98lb fish. "The fishing was tough and we only had three bites all day and we only caught three. We didn't practice for the event and just fished what we knew about that lake from the summer," added Abshire. They caught two on a jig and one on a fluke according to Abshire.

Congrats to the top finishers! U.S.A. Bassin would like to thank all of the teams for their participation this year.
