Uncle Sam Bass Caught!

Apr 28, 2015
4.44 was the lucky number for Moe Hazel and Brian Baker.

At the Lucas Oil Barkley State Park Open, the team of Moe Hazel and Brian Baker knew they didn't have enough weight to win. Their 15lb limit was respectable (8th Place) but did not leave them in contention to win or get a check, but they stayed at the weigh-in anyways just to hear the announced weight of the Uncle Sam Bass. "That Uncle Sam Bass was the only thing that kept us around and I was just going to leave when I heard they announced the weight of 4.44lbs and knew we won it," said Hazel.

The team was very excited to learn they had just won a $1,000 for their 4.44lb bass. The team could have won an additional $2,000 if they would have had a Garmin on their boat (additional $1,000) and if they would have purchased Lucas Oil products by clicking on the usabassin.com homepage (additional $1,000). They were happy with the $1,000 nonetheless, "it was just unreal to hit that exact weight," added Hazel.

The team does not know which angler caught the fish as both caught a similar sized bass during the day. "We are a team so we just put the fish in the livewell when we catch them. It was either one that he caught on a spinnerbait or one that I caught on a Strike King Rage Tail Toad," added Hazel. Before weighing in, they put the two almost identical bass on a balance beam since their scale didn't weigh in 1/100ths of an ounce. They made the right choice and are $1,000 richer because of it.
