On September 25th, 2022 twelve teams made up of Lake Santee members and their guests took part in the final USA Bassin’ tournament of the season.  The morning started off a tad bit rough with a thunderstorm and abundant lightening overhead. While the unpleasant weather moved out quickly and our anglers were able to resume fishing, the bass became predictably more difficult to locate.  However, as can be expected, someone always figures out the combination to make the bass bite and this month was no different. The father and son team of Butch and Marco Mikesell returned to their winning ways, well doubling the weight of their nearest competition with five beautiful bass which weighed 16.14 pounds.  Finishing a distant, but respectable for the conditions, second place was the team of Mike Griffith and Joe Ford with two bass totaling 7.04 lbs.  Third place was captured by Trey Lowder, fishing with his son, Nathan, as a sub for his normal partner, with a 5.55 lb. giant bass which also captured the tournament’s big bass. Many of our fishermen said they had their best results on a combination of topwater, soft plastic baits, and jigs.  Congratulations everyone on a tough day of fishing!

Following the tournament, most of our anglers stayed around and enjoyed some wonderful barbequed brisket provided by Lake Santee’s own Bob Kasee and boy, was it was delicious! This is another example of the great fellowship which our angling members share in at these family-oriented events!  Thank you, Bob, for being a great friend to the fishing members!

As mentioned earlier, this was the final event of the 2022 season. We would like to thank all of our sponsors who donated to our tournaments and help make them the success events which they are.

Until next season, remember, PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE on all of Lake Santee’s bass!

Chip & Lisa Ayers

IMPORTANT INFORMATION CONCERNING THE 2022 USA BASSIN LAKE SANTEE OPEN

Lake Santee is a private lake managed by a home owners association, the Lake Santee Property Owner’s Association.  With that being said, all rules and bylaws enacted by the homeowner’s association must take precedence, first and foremost.  We have received several inquiries concerning eligibility to take part in our tournament.  According to the by-laws, only boats registered to property owners who are members in good standing of the association are permitted access to the lake.  In addition, one member of the tournament team must be an association member or immediate family member (spouse, child, etc.).  This rule, unfortunately, does sometimes exclude participation by teams who don’t meet those requirements.

With all that being said, THERE ARE NUMEROUS LOTS FOR SALE at Lake Santee!  These lots can be purchased for very reasonable prices and, in doing so, allows the owner(s) full access to the lake and all included privileges.  Interested parties may contact the Lake Santee Property Owners Association office at (812) 527-2943 six days a week to learn more about the community and obtain lists of lots for sale and local real estate agents' contact information.

If you are interested in becoming a part of one of the Midwest’s premiere bass fishing lakes, take a few minutes and research Lake Santee.  As tournament directors, our goal is to include as many anglers in our events, not exclude them.  However, we must abide by the association’s bylaws to do so.

Thank you to everyone for their understanding in this matter.

God Bless,

Chip & Lisa Ayers

Save the date! This year's USA Bassin Lake Santee Open/End of Summer Event will be Sunday, September 25, 2022. More information will be forthcoming as the date approaches.

Congratulations to Team McQueen for their 2021 Lake Santee Open win!

The brothers rode Dan's 5.18 lb. big bass to a limit which totaled 14.94 pounds to take top honors at the event. The pair's efforts topped the twelve teams who took part in this open event which saw every fisherman (and ladies!) bring keeper bass to the scales.

We would like to thank our season’s trophy sponsor, Paul Pank and all the great folks at R.W. Baird Financial in Greensburg, IN for their continued support. Our anglers also appreciated all the great tackle that Jeff Litchfield of Litchfield Lures graciously donated for our fishing folks to put into use. We are truly blessed to be supported by so many great businesses.

As most will recall, our bass tournament teams donate money throughout the year in order to purchase adult bass each fall to supplement the population of our lake’s fishery. This year will be no different. Arrangements are again being made to purchase largemouth bass from Clear Creek Fishery in Martinsville, IN for stocking in Lake Santee by our tournament teams. Thank you to our anglers for your continued support of our efforts and our great community.

As the fishing season winds down, many of our members will turn their attention to the woods and afield. We wish everyone success and good health for the remainder of 2021 and into 2022. Plans are already underway to make next season even bigger and better.

Until next time, tight lines and remember to PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE on all of Lake Santee’s bass!

God Bless,

Chip & Lisa Ayers

September 22, 2021

Our final bass tournament of the 2021 season will be held this coming Sunday, September 26th at beautiful Lake Santee. The tournament hours will be 7AM until 1PM and, as customary, we will take off from the main beach area. This is an USA Bassin OPEN tournament, so no USA Bassin membership will be required for this event. However, as a reminder, Lake Santee is a private lake so all association rules must be followed.

The entry fee is $65 for this event. We will also be collecting the $2 bass restocking fee, for a total of $67.

Included in the entry fee for this tournament will be the team's entry into the Uncle Sam Bass Challenge. This is a separate chance for teams to win over $2000 this month by simply matching the mystery weight which will be randomly drawn at the end of September.

Come on out and join the fun at Lake Santee.. You'll be sorry you didn't in just a few short weeks!!

Please be sure to read the Important Information contained below concerning eligibility for this tournament.

Stay tuned!

God Bless,

Chip & Lisa Ayers
