Brownie's Marine Regional

Oct 22, 2013

The first ever Brownie's Marine Regional was held on Geist Reservoir on October 20th. The field was capped at 75 due to parking and was filled quickly. Tournament Director Ricky Ingram said the event was a huge success and teams from Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio entered the event. "This is a really good lake and we  had to cap the field, but next year we will be having two separate regionals here. I have already scheduled the dates for the first Saturday and Sunday in October next year," said Ingram. The fishing was slightly tougher than normal, but there were still several big fish brought to the scales, including one that weighed 6.38lbs.

First Place was Rob Mastin and Eric Poore who had a limit weighing 15.29lbs with a bass weighing 5.09lbs in their bag. The team caught a total of eight keepers during the day and had a limit by just at 10:00 in the morning. "We were catching them all on texas-rigged tubes around the docks. We focused on the sides and poles under the docks and tried to pitch to places that other people would miss, way under the docks," said Mastin. The key depth range was 7-8feet and they caught fish throughout the day. For the win, they brought home over $3,500 including money for the second big bass of the day.

Second Place was Matthew Morris and Rod Rumfelt. Their five fish limit weighed 11.35lbs. They also had the big bass of the event, the 6.38lb lunker. Their day didn't start out well, despite catching 15-20 fish during the course of the day. "At 3:00 we didn't have a fish but we started catching them right at the end of the day fishing docks with tubes and jigs. The big one came right around 4:00 and was our third keeper," said Morris. The 4:30 weigh-in time helped them and they were able to make it count during the last hour and a half of the day.

Third Place was Steve Nicholson and John D. Fields who had a limit weighing 11.32lbs.
