Ohio River Regional

Oct 29, 2013

The 2013 Ohio River Regional was held out of Cox’s Park on October 27th. The field of 39 boats was set to take off at 7:45 am but the fog rolled in and delayed the start of the event. “I had to hold them back until after 10:00am because the fog was so bad. I think the shortened day hurt the fishing a little, but we still had 16 limits,” said Tournament Director Andy Lucas. Even with the short day, many in the field found the fishing to be pretty good.

Taking first place and big bass of the tournament was Allan Farris and Tim Puckett who had a limit weighing 9.40lbs and the big bass at 3.48lbs. This team decided to make a one hour run each way, despite the short day. “We only had about four hours of fishing time total; we went from one dam all the way to right by the other dam. We were confident in the area even with a short day,” said Farris. The team fished a variety of lures including a spinnerbait, crankbait and tube for the win.

Second Place was Byron Pittman and Dave Watson with a limit weighing 8.84lbs. “We had our first limit in about 30 minutes and those were the five we ended up weighing in. We caught at least another limit of keepers but nothing that helped,” said Watson. The team focused on the same spot for the entire event, mixing in different baits along the way. “It was an area in the mouth of a creek that was 6-8 feet deep, and about the size of a pickup truck was a rockpile. The rest of the bank was mucky and the fish were just in that little spot,” added Watson. The team fished 3/8oz Secret Lures MVP jigs in black and blue, but also used a white version and soft plastics to give the fish a different look.

Third Place was Hebie and Connie Booher with a limit weighing 7.75lbs.

Tournament Director Andy Lucas would like to thank all of the USA Bassin national sponsors as well as his regional sponsors. A2O Boating Supplies and Pro Shop, Denali Rods, and M +C Marine all helped with this event and throughout the season. “A2O donated two rods for the first team out of the money and that means alot, nobody likes being first out of the money,” added Lucas.
